We publish Latin American and Spanish poetry in translation. We encourage potential submitters to review our catalog and mission statement.

We are especially interested in publishing:

  • the work of indigenous, Black, queer and/or women poets.
  • the work of authors for whom this will be the first full-length publication in English in the 'United States.'
  • the work of poets from countries less represented in our catalog (including, among others, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, and Paraguay).
  • poetry on politics, archives, history, land, climate, maps, documents, language, love and sex.

Please note:

  • Full-length submissions should have a minimum of 40 pages of original text and 40 pages of translated text.
  • Submissions are made by translators.
  • Previously published translations are not eligible, including self-published collections available as ebooks or in print.
  • Simultaneous submissions are allowed as long as you inform Cardboard House Press immediately of acceptance elsewhere.
  • The submission fee is $15 via Submittable and non-refundable.
  • Paperback publication with Cardboard House Press includes an honorarium for the author and translator and author/translator copies.
  • Please allow a minimum of three months to hear back from us.

Please include:

  • A brief cover letter on the translation, including information on original publication and translation rights, prior publications of excerpts, and how the volume fits with the Cardboard House Press catalog and mission (no more than one page).
  • The complete manuscript of poetry in translation along with the original. A standard, 12-point font and 1.5 spacing is preferred, in .doc or .docx format. Please submit a manuscript of the Spanish original and the English translation as two separate Word documents. Please do not send scanned photocopies of original texts. Please include a table of contents at the start of the document. If the translation is in process, please submit at least 75% of the manuscript and a description of the timeline for completion.
  • A bio of the author and translator(s). There is no limit on the number of translators.

We look forward to reading your translation!
